Improvements to the Club Huts

The club is very lucky to have two properties - the cottage (for members and their guests) and the barn (for booking out to groups). It does mean twice as much maintenance though!

1998
  • New Velux windows to both the cottage and barn
  • Barn kitchen extensively refurbished
  • Both buildings redecorated
2000
  • Hut Appeal Fund launched
  • Appeal raises over £4000 in 6 weeks
2002
  • Cottage rewired
  • Fire Detection Systems fitted in both the cottage and barn
  • Cottage kitchen refurbished (including fitting hobs to CORGI standards)
2003
  • New fire escape installed in the barn lounge
  • Fire doors fitted in barn and cottage
  • Barn washroom totally refurbished
  • Cottage drying facilities completed
2004
  • Ceilings in the barn bedrooms replaced
  • Two 80 year old beech trees felled from behind the barn
2005
  • Floor tiled in cottage kitchen and bathroom
  • Cottage Kitchen redecorated
2006
  • The mains water pipe to the cottage and barn replaced
  • Cottage lounge repainted
2007
  • Cottage lounge floor tiled
2008
  • Both buildings given a big spring clean with a skipful of rubbish removed
  • Leaky cottage chimney repaired
2009
  • Barn redecorated
  • Barn end bunkroom ceiling replaced
  • Front of barn re-landscaped
  • Path to huts upgraded to improve access for work vehicles
  • Improved heating and drying arrangements in the Barn and new drainage

In 2010 the committee aim to focus on ensuring both buildings are watertight by improving the drainage at the back of both buildings. Additionally it is hoped to replace the barn windows and maybe even a new fireplace for the cottage.

If you have any comments on these improvements, or can help in some way, then please email Claire, who is putting together a development plan for both buildings.
